Asan lookout on the central mountain ridge. Asan beach below was the main assault beach for the American landing on Guam during WWII. American troops numbering 55,000 hit the beaches here and at Agat on 21 July, 1944. The Japanese fought to the death with total casualties of 25,000. It is hard to believe that my sleepy village was the scene of such death and destruction 50 years ago.
